This hotel has accommodated many famous characters over the centuries; people who have influenced Germany's history and culture. In 1522, Martin Luther stayed here under the pseudonym "Junker Jörg". For meetings, conferences and seminars we offer various rooms, the largest of which seats 100.

We are listed in famous guidebooks such as Varta, Michelin, Der Feinschmecker, ADAC, DAS, Savoir Vivre, Marco Polo, Aral Schlemmeratlas, Der Metternich and Gault Millau (1992-2000). At the end of 1999, our hotel's chefs were awarded a "chef's hat" for the 9th consecutive year, for their skilful preparation of regional and international dishes; no other restaurant in Jena received this accolade.

Our exquisite range of simple Thuringian cuisine and international dishes will satisfy even our most discerning guests. In the "Schwarzer Bär" we offer our guests hearty cuisine from first-class regional produce. Our cellar is well stocked with wines from all of the most famous regions of the world, and also with local wines from Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and from around Jena, Europe's most northerly wine-growing region. Your day begins with a rich Thuringian breakfast buffet served in our attractive "Spiegelsaal" from 6:30 until 10:00. Lunch and dinner are served from 11:00 in our restaurant and in our "Grüner Salon". At the end of the day, you can unwind in our cosy bar.
